§         by attracting Eastern Students, perspectives, faculty, community members, and local youth to a sport they may not know, but that they may enjoy.

§         To move Ultimate toward the status of an “intercollegiate sport” in the Philadelphia area.

§         By supporting the creation of separate men’s, and women’s teams at Eastern so that each sex may excel in their own professional level division, while maintaining Eastern’s tradition of having Ultimate as a open Co-ed sport.

§         By having team uniforms (for tournaments and games), and a Coach.

§         by setting up games with other local college Ultimate teams (including but not limited to Brynmawr, Haverford, Swarthmore, Drexel, and UPenn.)

I.                   Preamble (please see the Club Mission Statement above)

II.                Membership

A.     This club team is open to all students who want to play Ultimate. We do not discriminate by race, ethnicity, color, sex, or playing ability.

1.      The captains do retain the right to place requirements on those who wish to attend the tournaments and games in the form of practice attendance, payment of UPA membership fees, and commitment to the team.

2.      The captains retain the right to remove any player from the field who does not conduct him or herself in an appropriate manner consistent with “the Spirit of the Game.”

3.      The captains also retain the right to adjust the rotation schedule, of the players at any given game or tournament, according to each individual’s commitment level to the team, and to recent practices.  (The purpose of clause this is to prevent veteran players and recent ‘walk ons’ from dominating the playing time during tournaments and games, over players who have practiced regularly and showed a commitment to the team.)

4.      For the purpose of emphasis, the captains may not prevent or discourage players from participating at tournaments or games on the basis of skill level. (This game is primarily about fun, and enjoyment.  Winning should be a secondary concern.)

III.             Team captains

A.     Captains will be chosen by a simple majority consensus of the club members present at a meeting called for this purpose.

1.      This meeting should be publicized for no less than one (1) week prior to the meeting, via a notice on the club board and should take place at the beginning of the fall semester.

2.      A vote may be taken in the spring semester to fill a vacant captain’s position.

3.      Captains positions carry a term of one (1) year.

B.     Those running for a captain’s position may not vote.

C.    There should be 2 to 3 captains for the team.  In the event that separate men's and women’s teams are formed, then each team should have 2 captains.

D.    One of the captains will be named club treasurer, by a consensus among the captains.

1.      That person’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to,

a)     making sure records are kept of all club financial transactions,

b)     handling the club cash box and the resources therein,

c)     ensuring that a budget proposal is submitted in a timely fashion to the S.G.A. during the spring semester. This can be delegated, but make sure that the job is completed.  The treasurer are ultimately responsible.

d)     meeting all S.G.A. requirements for the club treasurer.

E.     All captains will share the responsibilities of president, vice president, and secretary, as they see fit to equably divide the work.  The delegation of some of this work to active team members is strongly recommended.

1.      This includes, but is not limited to

a)      recruiting members,

b)     setting up regular weekly practices,

c)     making tournament and game arrangements,

d)     publicizing team practices, games, and tournaments,

e)     encouraging members to come out,

f)       securing field space from the athletics office,

g)     recruiting and communicating with an active club advisor,

h)     securing table space during club day, and homecoming,

i)        securing transportation to and from team events,

j)        maintaining a list of active team members,

k)     maintaining a file of previous team players for the purpose of homecoming and reunion events,

l)        securing a coach,

m)   the creation of team uniforms,

n)     organizing team fundraisers,

o)     ensuring that the team uses and exhausts it’s S.G.A./Athletic budgets as laid out in the most recent budget proposal,

p)     maintaining the team web site http://esther.eastern.edu/~ultimate/index.html,

q)     Keeping up to date on the current rules and interpretations there of as outlined by the UPA,

r)       upholding the Constitution and Mission Statement of this team, and the goals here in.

IV.            Practices

A.     The team will practice 3 days per week minimum.

B.     It is recommended that practice only be canceled in the event of severe weather.  The more rain/snow, the more spectacular the layouts.  Local parks are recommended for wet weather practices.

V.               Tournaments

A.     Tournaments occur almost every weekend February through November and intermittently during the winter months and around the world.

B.     This team will participate in three tournaments per semester.

1.      One of these three tournaments during Spring semester will be the sectional playoff tournament for our area.

C.    Any team member wishing to participate in a UPA sponsored tournament will be required by UPA rules to join the Ultimate Players Association.  The current one year membership fee for college students in $20.00 and expires either in Febuary. or August.

D.    The team will practice often to be prepared to do well in the tournaments that it participates in, but fun and “Spirit of the Game” must always be more important than winning.

VI.            Games with other local Educational Institutions

A.     There are a large number of colleges and universities within 30 minutes of Eastern College who have active, and high rated Ultimate teams.  The captains should make an effort to contact the Ultimate teams at these schools and arrange occasional scrimmages together to build the relationship between our institutions, to share what we, as a Christian institution are all about, and to further the sport of ultimate toward the intercollegiate level in the Philadelphia area.

VII.         Community Service

A.     The team should arrange on a yearly basis, preferably in the fall, to do some kind of a community service outreach to the local community.  Some suggestions are

1.      Host a free (or nearly free) kids and Jr. High youth day.  Teach various skills and then host a mini-tournament.  Invite local youth groups from the Philadelphia, and Radnor area as well as Boy and Girl scout troops.  Give out T-shirts, or discs.

2.      Volunteer to help with a Phys-Ed Class at a elementary or Jr. High school in the Philadelphia area.

3.      See the office of Service Learning and Campus Ministries for more general ideas.

VIII.      Host a Semi-annual Tournament every other year.

A.     As part of furthering the sport of ultimate toward an intercollegiate level, the team should host a semi-annual “Strive for Dive” tournament on campus or at local fields.

B.     This can be used as a fundraiser, as a charity event or simply as a day to have fun where we hope we break even.

IX.            Take a Spring Break Trip on a Semi-annual basis.

A.     On the years that the team does not host a tournament, it is suggested that the team take trip, and participate in two weekend tournaments while away.  Since tournaments take place on the weekends, it is recommended that the team participate in a community service, outreach, or personal spiritual growth related activity.  Some ideas include…

1.      the North Carolina Easterns as a nice tourney,

2.      helping on the Miami, FL Habitat for Humanity trip,

3.      doing street evangelism near the tournament sites,

4.      attending a spiritual renewal conference, or a revival.

X.               Fundraising

A.     To help offset the cost of doing a community service day, hosting a tournament, taking a spring break trip, paying UPA membership fees, and to meet SGA budget proposal stipulations, the Ultimate Frisbee Club team should do annual fundraising. Suggestions include…

1.       Selling discs with the Eastern College name on it.

2.      Selling team T-shirts and uniforms

3.      Doing large promotions on Club day, and at homecoming.

XI.            On campus team self promotion

A.     It is suggested that team members carry discs around with them while on campus to promote general awareness of our team.

XII.         Closing remarks

A.     Get a disc, Learn disc, Give a disc, Teach disc, and Have FUN!!
